When Survival No Longer Runs the Show: What MDMA Therapy Taught Me About Being Unshakable

There’s a moment in deep healing work when your mind — brilliant and strategic as it may be — simply stops running the show.

Where your carefully curated identity, your coping mechanisms, and your polished wisdom can’t take you any further.

For me, that moment arrived during MDMA-assisted trauma therapy.
Not in the poetic, romanticised way people love to frame medicine work.
In the raw, deeply human way — where control slipped through my fingers and something softer, far more profound, took its place.

The Experience: Beyond the Mind, Into the Body

MDMA therapy wasn’t gentle.
It wasn’t blissed-out or transcendent.

It was intimate and confronting.
It cracked me open — not through force, but through presence.

In that space, I met the parts of me I’d spent years bypassing or managing.
The Survival Self — even after so much work — was still gripping quietly in places I didn’t expect.

There was no performing healing.
No polished teaching voice.
No clever framework to lean on.

Just me.
Held. Seen. Loved without condition.

That, right there, is what becoming unshakable actually looks like.
Not about being unbothered or untouched by life.
But about being so deeply with yourself, even in discomfort, that nothing gets to exile you from your own presence again.

The Real Gift: Capacity, Presence, and Remembering Who I Am

Integration was not pristine or perfect.

In the weeks that followed, life didn’t give me a break.
Personal stressors piled up. Emotions ran high. There were plenty of invitations to snap, shut down, or numb out.

But something was different.

Where once I might have spiralled or drowned in the waves, I stayed.
I let myself feel — without being consumed.
I rode the waves — without being dragged under.

The gift of that experience wasn’t just what happened in the session.
It was the remembering that followed.

Remembering that I am not my reactive moments.
Remembering that I am not my stress, my impatience, or my scarcity when capacity is low.
Remembering that beneath it all, I am the love I felt when everything else fell away.

That knowing has become a compass I return to again and again — not just for me, but in how I hold space for others.

There Are Many Paths Home (And I’ve Walked a Few)

MDMA therapy was powerful.
But it isn’t the only way — nor should it be.

My journey home to myself has taken many forms:

  • Ayahuasca and cacao ceremonies that cracked my heart wide open.

  • Breathwork and restorative yoga that helped me befriend my nervous system.

  • Energy healing that moved what words couldn’t reach.

  • Spirit-led coaching and sacred space holding that root me back into sovereignty.

Each path met me exactly where I was.
Each path stopped working, in time, and called me forward to something new.

That’s the truth of this work:
No tool is forever.
No method is sacred.

You are evolving — and your strategies, no matter how beloved, must evolve too.

Unshakability is not about clinging to what worked.
It’s about the willingness to find what serves this version of you — and release what doesn’t.

Choosing the Right Guide (It’s About Resonance, Not Popularity)

In a world obsessed with viral wisdom, shiny brands, and bestsellers, it’s easy to get seduced.
But the right teacher?

They aren’t always the most famous.
(My therapist has zero social media following.)
They aren’t always easy to digest.
(Some of my teachers have dropped wildly uncomfortable nuggets that I could only grow by slowly digesting.)
And they certainly aren’t always affirming.
(You need to be secure enough to be called out if you really want to journey a path to truth.)

Sometimes the most important guide will stretch you.
Sometimes they’ll offer uncomfortable truths.
Sometimes they’ll hold the mirror when you’d rather look away.

The key is knowing the difference.

Your body will know.
Their words won’t violate you, even if they challenge you.
You’ll feel called, not coerced.

This is why, in my own work, I am not here to be your guru.
I am here to be your guide back to your own knowing.

Because no voice — not even mine — should ever be louder than your own.

From Survival to Sovereignty: Why This Matters for My Work

This personal reckoning only deepened my devotion to the work I hold space for.

I help women — often deep feelers and sacred rebels in their 40s and 50s — untangle themselves from who they were told to be and reclaim who they actually are.

Through The Survival Self framework, we uncover the hidden identities running the show.
Through sacred coaching and spirit-led guidance, we disrupt and release those old strategies.
Through embodiment, practice, and self-trust, we integrate a new way of being.

MDMA taught me this:
You can’t think your way free.
You have to feel your way home.

And that’s what I help others do — walk themselves home, not just intellectually, but through every layer of their being.

Because knowing your Survival Self isn’t about shaming those old patterns.
It’s about seeing them clearly so you can step out of their shadow — and into your Unshakable Self.
